Saturday 3rd September
David
woke at 8 but I needed to stay in bed and rest for some time while he sat on
the balcony. We took things slowly as we had a whole day and night in Mykonos. We filled in some paperwork and spoke to
Guest Relations to change our departure time, as the one given to us had us
waiting at the airport for 4 hours before our flight. The people behind the
desk were very good and arranged it while we were off the ship. The first I
knew was an email confirming a new time. The only problem was that I could not
print off the voucher and had to arrange to email it to Guest Relations that
evening so that they could print it off for me.
We
finally left the ship about midday. The ship was a short distance from the Old
Town and we had 2 ways to get there. We could have caught the free shuttle bus
and then walked for 10 minutes, or we could have paid €2 per person each way
for a sea bus (boat). We chose the latter. We had a bit of a wait but it was
pleasant to sit in the sea breeze.
We could see Celebrity Reflection, our last ship, in port. It was anchored off the Old Town, taking people there by tender. I remember doing that
on my first visit to Mykonos.
We
wandered through the town, along winding streets. We looked in shops and we
stopped in a beautiful bar for a drink and to contact the world through wifi.
It was a very pleasant, relaxing day.
We tried to walk along the sea edge of
the town but found that the wind was so high that it was blowing sea spray over
the walls and metres up the cobblestones. We soon scuttled into an alley.
We
came back to the ship around 3pm. We knew we would be in the town again in the
evening so we wanted some time to rest on the ship. David sat in the sun,
enjoying the cool breeze and dozing while I sat next to him and typed up my
diary and read. I don’t usually last long in the sun but the breeze was quite
fierce and kept me cool. In fact, it was so fierce that many of the sun beds
had been put away to stop them blowing away. I lost my sea pass card, so I
assume that was blown away too.
We
were hungry and went to the Seaview Café for a snack, only to realise that it
was 6pm, so it became our meal.
Around
8 we took the sea bus back to Mykonos Old Town to find a gay piano bar that
David could remember from over 10 years ago. He was able to lead us directly
there, which was pretty impressive. The music was due to start at 9pm and the
room slowly filled up. At first I thought I was the only woman in the room but
then saw a couple more. The singer was fantastic and could really belt out
numbers. It was the same piano player and singer that David could remember from
all those years ago.
We sat by a wall of windows that was open from about
waist-height upwards, so we could hear the waves. Wonderful place! Lots of
people left after the first set of singing but then others came along as it came
close to the time for the second set.
We
left partway through the second set, at about 11.40. David was worried about
the walk back to the shuttle bus, as we knew the sea bus had stopped at 11. It
was supposed to be a 10-minute walk but ended up being closer to 15 or 20
minutes. We had trouble finding the bus and had to ask people. It was up on the road instead of in
the port. Evidently the port closed at night.
We
went to the Martini Bar and I questioned about upgrading our drinks package to
Premium for the rest of the cruise. As I had hoped, they classed it as already
being Sunday so we only had to pay for 3 days. This meant David could have
Tanqueray 10 gin instead of Bombay Sapphire, and I could use his card to get a pomegranate mojito. By the time we had a drink and David watched some TV while I read, it was close to 2am before we went to sleep.
The
ship was due to leave Mykonos at 3am.
