Santorini

Thursday 1st September

David woke about 7am and sat on the balcony in the sunshine. I heard him, plus numerous announcements, but kept going back to sleep. About 8.15 I decided there was too much noise and I should get up. I sat in the sun with David for a time and then we went to breakfast.

We had made the decision not to go ashore. Santorini is lovely but there were 6 ships in port and 2 of them were our size, with 3,000 passengers. We did not want our idea of Santorini spoilt by crowds of people and long queues to go up and down the cable car. We especially did not want to end up having to walk down the donkey track again. Originally there had been 7 ships in port but a Costa ship had cancelled. It sounds like a wise decision to me!

As we looked out, we could see the winding donkey track that we had walked down a year earlier when the queue for the cable car was too long to get us back to the ship in time. We would not want to walk that again!

There were very few people on the pool deck. David sat in the sun while I sat in the shade writing up several days of my diary. After that I joined him in the sun. I am working up a slight tan. When we swam in the pool there were only 4-5 people, and I still managed to kick someone! People change angles at odd times and end up in unexpected places. There was a lovely breeze in the shade so I alternated between sun and shade and pool.

When we went back to our room, David decided to sleep for an hour while I read a book. I struggled to wake him when the hour was done, so he had another half hour of slow waking up while I started to get ready for the evening.

After dinner we found there was nothing interesting going on so we went back to our room. David was in bed by 10pm and asleep very shortly after as the TV would not connect. I read a book until my sleeping tablet kicked in.
